McAleer and Rushe has begun construction on the final phase of the Southbank Place development in London.

The £138m Southbank Place Building 5 development (pictured) is located 100m from the London Eye.

The overall development is part of the Shell Tower Masterplan on London's South Bank.

Building 5 defines the corner of the masterplan site. The 13-storey structure, built above two basement levels at Belvedere Road, will provide 92 apartments and retail space. It is a five minute walk from Waterloo Station.

A mixed-use development in the South Bank Conservation area, the Shell Tower Masterplan is being undertaken by the Braeburn Estates joint venture between Qatari Diar Europe and Canary Wharf Group.

McAleer & Rushe senior director Jonathan O'Neill said Southbank Place's location makes it "one of the most desirable prime residential schemes in the city".

He added: "The project demands a top level of expertise and experience with detailed high-specification schemes, which is an excellent fit for our long-standing reputation in the hotel and residential sectors."
