Plans go in for twin 51-storey Manchester towers

Developer Renaker has applied for planning permission for two 51-storey residential towers in central Manchester.

It said the towers in the Great Jackson Street area of the south-west of the city would provide 988 new homes, including co-working spaces, gym and lounges with private underground parking.

Architect Simpson Haugh has designed both towers with chamfered edges, increasing and decreasing every five storeys, "creating a dynamic vertical movement up the tower", according to the developer.

A Renaker statement said: "This planning submission represents another significant step in our journey to [...] deliver, subject to approval, the aspirations of Manchester City Council's Great Jackson Street strategic regeneration framework, through the creation of high-quality new homes set within two striking unique towers, along with extensive public realm."

Renaker said last summer that it would submit plans for four new residential towers, ranging from 39 to 60 storeys on the Trinity Islands riverside site in the new St John's area north west of the city centre.

Its tower projects in Manchester include the 64-storey Deansgate Square, formerly known as Owen Street and the 12 and 21-storey Castle Wharf at Chester Road, Deansgate.
