Planning permission granted for Wandsworth pencil tower

We are delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted for the development of a new 20 storey mixed-use tower and public river walk along the Wandle in Wandsworth. The project is the result of a long relationship with the client, Baylight Properties, and context: the site is adjacent to the former paint factory we converted into a mixed-use development in 2004 for the same developer.
The idea of a ‘pencil tower’ emerged in response to the uniqueness of the site and a concern to minimise its impact on the skyline. A ground floor café and the addition of a new section to the Wandle River Trail will provide new amenities for the local community.
This residential tower is proposed to transform a vacant plot used for ancillary car parking into a 68m-high mixed-use block comprising 27 residential units and a café. The site is adjacent to the Wandsworth mixed use project we completed in 2004 for Baylight Properties Ltd.
Carved facades and a slender vertical order give the building an elegant sculptural form. In keeping with the existing refurbished workshops buildings, the tumbled white brick and concrete tower have metal windows that reinforce the building's industrial character.
The scheme also proposes extending the ‘Wandle Trail’ along the River Wandle with a 90m-long public realm walkway.
