Galliard Homes has secured approval from Lewisham Planning Committee to transform Leegate Shopping Centre in Lee Green, South East London into a residential tower.
A building of up to 15 storeys containing 562 new homes designed by Rolfe Judd Architecture can now be constructed on the 1.92-hectare brownfield site currently occupied by the 1960s shopping centre.
Simon Welch, Director of Land at Galliard Homes said: "We welcome Lewisham Council's decision, and share it's view that there is a real opportunity to deliver a new and vibrant mixed-use regeneration scheme on the site that responds to the way people live, work and spend their leisure time."
Knight Frank's Residential Land team sold the site to Galliard Homes in early 2021 before the firm's Planning team steered it through planning.
Emma Gill, an Associate in the Planning team at Knight Frank said: "This site had a complex planning history, during which time we have had to contend with emerging Neighbourhood and Local Plans and engage closely with local residents and the community.
"Securing a unanimous vote in favour of the application at planning committee was the climax of many years hard work across multiple Knight Frank teams.
"This will be a new neighbourhood for Lee Green and we're delighted to have secured this result on behalf of our client Galliard Homes and the local community, who will greatly benefit from the area's regeneration."
