BDP submits plans for 36-storey Salford tower
11/6/21
The tower would provide co-living homes and a hotel. The planning application also asks to convert eight railway arches into café and bar spaces.
The first 10 floors of the tower would be dedicated to the hotel, which would have 171 bedrooms alongside a reception, lounge and restaurant.
The upper 24 storeys of the building would contain 485 build-to-rent co-living rooms, clustered around 135 apartments, with a residents' roof terrace on the 32nd storey. Progressive Living Developments, the scheme's developer, has already exchanged contracts on a leasehold deal with Network Rail – which owns the 0.17ha site.
The tower would be built on the border between Manchester and Salford, next to OMI Architects' 2015 build-to-rent tower One Green Gate.
David Fairclough, director at Progressive Living Developments, said: 'We have taken our time to design a scheme that will be an attractive, vibrant addition to the area, and our proposals were welcomed by those who attended the public consultation back in 2019.
'Greengate has seen huge investment over the past few years. It is transforming into a sought-after place to live, and we look forward to playing our part in its ongoing regeneration.'
The developer hopes to start on site towards the end of this year for completion in the second quarter of 2023.
